I remember a time when I was fifteen years old. I was in a church pageant. I recited a poem by Maya Angelou: I'm determined to be somebody someday.

Even in those moments of wanting to give up, God would allow me to reflect on the day I stood in the pulpit on 119th and Halsted in Chicago and tell myself, I'm determined to be somebody someday.

In this book, you will see my hurt, my pain, my setbacks. But most of all, you will see the faithfulness, mercy, grace, and the love of God.
