Without, Haiku

Returning to the teachings of Zen-Buddhism

Leigh Herrick's second book of poetry is a stunning accomplishment of remarkable freshness and minimalism.

Here, in 86 poems, the poet draws from the simple richness of the natural world as the philosophy of silence, by Way of quietude, becomes a means of peace, contemplation, and ultimate rejuvenation.

A great weight seems to ease in this work as the bare beauty of nature intrinsic to Zen and haiku unfolds: "One line / June bug on the screen / Ten thousand dreams."

Written over three seasons, beginning in June and ending in late October, WITHOUT, HAIKU reveals a very personal glimpse into the poet's daily life as she shares her intimate engagement with her natural surroundings and her occasional reflections on the world at large.

Leigh Herrick's WITHOUT, HAIKU is a beautiful endeavor and an enlightening read for any who seek a little time to journey inward, revitalize, and reconnect.
