In 1913 the former President teamed up with his son Kermit and Brazilian explorer Cândido Rondon for a six-week, thousand-mile journey along what it now known as the Roosevelt River.

The malaria he contracted there shortened his life, but Roosevelt left this diary of the native people, landscapes, exotic plants, and dangerous animals he encountered during the trip.
