Slocum will be picking up a herd of twenty horses and riding them back from Santa Fe. It’s a long, dangerous trail full of renegades, Indians and road agents with all sorts of criminal intentions—but Slocum is never an easy target.

Then, Slocum thwarts an ambush that is suspiciously coincidental and is drawn into a family war. The bushwhackers wounded Ben Travers so badly that he may not pull through—and he has urgent news that he can’t share with his outlaw-hearted sister. Now, the only two people alive who know the location of a fortune in silver are Ben and a straight-shooting hombre he’s just sworn to secrecy—named Slocum.
