Lily of the Field
Introduction
Penny and Paul Harris see a mysterious white object in their field at dusk. It seems to hop and appears and disappears from their sight.
Ula, an older girl at school, tells them they have seen an evil spirit or a ghost and that Penny and Paul will have bad luck. Ula, the school bully, is bent on causing trouble.
Summer Search
School lets out and the Harris children have the summer to search for answers.
Ula's father has not been able to support his family but has gotten a job as a tenant farmer in the next county. Ula is living away from her family and has taken a job for the summer to help with their lack of money.
