The final volume of McCarthy’s history begins with the reign of George IV (1820-1830)—whose last words were recorded, “O God, this is death.” King William IV’s seven-year reign is then discussed, as well as the emancipation of labor. McCarthy closes with the death of King William IV in 1837.
