George Selwyn (1719–1791)

George Selwyn was a member of Britain’s Parliament who relished court life, spending his time among “wits, men of fashion, court people, politicians, statesmen.” He was also a prolific letter-writer. George Selwyn and the Wits (1909) is a fascinating portrait of eighteenth-century life, drawing on letters to and from Selwyn as well as other historical sources.
