Frederic the Great and Kaiser Joseph

First published in 1915, this volume is Temperley's 'raciest piece of non-stop narrating and his most colourful finished work - the whole mixture to be taken in one breath'.

And in describing the events of the 'potato war', the problem of Bavaria, the peace of Teschen and the dynastic tangle of the Diplomatic Revolution Temperley reveals the great interest he felt for the characters of Frederick II and the Emperor Joseph II. This remains a stimulating account of mid-eighteenth century European politics.
