Coyote Rage

Summary

A Cherokee man and his daughter must escape a shapeshifting trickster in this Bram Stoker Award–winning novel from the author of Crota.

Setting and Plot

In a Florida funeral home, a corpse sits up and offers a warning: "Beware, Blue Sky Woman, Coyote's coming."

In a North Carolina nursing home, a young orderly casts the shadow of an animal, and leaves carnage in his wake. Though his youth is far behind him, Luther Watie can still recognize a shapeshifter when he sees one.

Growing up on an Eastern Cherokee reservation, he learned the ancient customs and beliefs of his people from his father, a tribal healer. So when Coyote appears in the hallway outside of his room—in human form—Luther is able to survive by escaping through a portal into the realm of Galun'lati, the original world where animals, plants, and spirits have always coexisted.

With Luther temporarily out of reach, Coyote turns his sights on his estranged daughter. Only by wiping out their bloodline will his mission be complete. For the Waties are the last human representatives in the Great Council and their destruction will give Coyote what he craves: a New World once again ruled by creatures of fur and feather, free from humanity's exploitation.

As Luther journeys through a land of the dead to find help, his daughter faces forces she never knew existed in a battle between good and evil that could end the human race.

Reviews

Captivating dark fantasy . . . thought-provoking, engaging, and original. The mythology and world building are fantastic, the action scenes and pacing exciting, and the language is engaging, even poetic at times.
