Affirmation of God's Providence

The apostle Paul affirms that all things work for good for those who love God. In His providence, God ordains all things. Spurgeon distinguishes between fate and providence. Fate says "whatever is, must be." Providence says, "Whatever God ordains, must be." Providence enables believers to trace God's hand by faith; fate is man's solution to chaos and catastrophe in human events.

Purpose of the Book

This book is intended as a devotional for the reader to reflect on and inwardly digest. The sermons selected highlight six principles:

  • God exercises care and kindness in small things and overrules all things for His glory;
  • God's presence is discernible in all creation;
  • His children can trust Him for their daily bread and usefulness;
  • God speaks through His Word and Spirit;
  • The divine hand rules all, individually and collectively;
  • God's providence is uniform and manageable by the unchanging God.
