One reason why people are questioning religious beliefs is that the reasons to believe in old world views have changed and are regarded today as largely superstitions and unreasonable but upheld by conservative authorities who do so for the sake of preserving their power over people.

Authority is being challenged by the rights of people to make their own meaning and think for themselves.
