The second edition of The United States illuminates America’s past and present by a straightforward examination of a wide range of subjects – geography, urbanization, immigration, and race, American wars, government, politics and foreign policy, literature, the visual arts and the media, as well as American thought and ideals. All the contributors have been engaged in the development of American studies in British universities, many of them as pioneers in that field.
