They include the George Washington Honor Medal of the Freedoms Foundation, the Benjamin Franklin Award of the Reserve Officers Association, and a large plaque from Senator Barry Goldwater, for distinguished journalism.

He is a member of professional writers organizations, the Outdoor Writers Association of America and the California Association of Outdoor Writers. He has written ten published non-fiction books and many magazine articles on various topics.
