Charles Dickens, the author was an English writer, journalist, editor and social critic. His famous plays are - A Tale of Two Cities, No Thoroughfare, The Frozen Deep. A Tale of Two Cities is an historical novel. It narrates the story of the French Doctor Manette and his 18-year-long imprisonment in Paris. When he was released from his imprisonment, he left for London. The two cities are in London only. Actually, the first plot deals with the rebirth of Dr. Manette and about those situations and reasons for the French Revolution by the lower classes and the Reign of Terror. The author asserts his belief in the possibility of transformation.

About the Author

Charles Dickens (7th Feb 1812 - 9th June 1870) was an English writer and social critic. He is regarded as the greater novelist of the Victorian era. His notable works include Bleak House, David Copperfield, Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, Dombey and Son, Little Dorrit, A Christmas Carol, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Hard Times and A Tale of Two Cities.

The Prince

The Prince is basically a political treatise and a sort of guide for new princes and royals. It was published five years after Niccolò's death. When he was alive, there was some controversy in his book. It was published only after seeking permission from the Medici pope Clement VII. The Prince is one of the best works of modern political philosophy, in which truth is highlighted rather than any abstract ideas or incidences. The beauty of the text is that it has a recognizable structure and the author has indicated himself in most of the portions. The book narrates mostly about princedoms, especially hereditary princedoms.

About the Author

Niccolò Machiavelli, the author was an Italian. (Born 3rd May 1469, died 21st June, 1527). He was a diplomat, philosopher, historian, politician and writer. He is best known for his book The Prince. His notable works are The Prince and Discourses on Livy.
