Collection Overview

The 35 gorgeous patchwork quilts in this collection are designed for beginners and any quilter whose time is limited. Using just three shapes, they show an amazing variety of designs made all the more exciting by a clever choice of fabrics in three groups of colorways.

Techniques and Tools

These shapes are cut quickly using the rotary cutter rather than with a template, and they are machine stitched together with chain-piecing wherever possible. The quilt "sandwich" is held together with machine quilting, big stitch hand quilting, or with simple ties and buttons.

Binding Methods

Two methods are used for the binding—one using four strips applied separately to the four sides, producing abutted corners, and the other, slightly more complicated, using a continuous binding, mitered at the corners.

Additional Techniques

Simple applique is introduced using a heart template and a technique called slashing. Chenille is used as an alternative to piecing to produce a highly textured surface for a really cuddly quilt.
