Spike & Lucy is an adventure story that takes place in the central Oregon coast with Grandpa Mac's real twin step granddaughters. Cape Perpetua is a few miles south of where they live and one of the best hiking national parks in the country.

Mac created the Kung-Fu Hiking Stick for a female neighbor who hiked alone in the Coast Range where there are black bears, cougars, and other potentially dangerous animals. He has filed a provisional patent but on the back cover offers do-it-yourself instructions for non-commercial use, believing everyone who purchases a comic might want to make their own KFHS.
