Story Summary

Rudy, a kitten on an outing with his family, falls asleep underneath an old tree and accidentally gets left behind. Meanwhile, a mother bird is teaching her babies to fly. Phipher, the baby bird, plummets to the ground as Rudy breaks his fall and saves his life.

The two must have courage to survive a night in the Woodland State Park without becoming prey to the wild animals and careless campers that let a campfire go haywire. The story rhymes the entire way through as the duo come out on the other side to become best friends and take eleven more journeys together that teach children important life lessons.
