Representatives of the scientific, educational, and government sectors look at the problems and prospects facing U.S. research and university education, presenting the perspectives of their own institutional biases and turning also to the experiences of Canada and Western Europe.

Concerns and Solutions

The concerns, proposals, and requirements they express deal with areas of conflict and suggest possible solutions. Though their views sometimes diverge, the authors seek to define some basic principles that can guide the development of productive new policies.
