Sharon Tuggle writes the fabulary tale of a donkey named Jaziz who is owned by an evil-hearted merchant named Sarif.

Set in Bethlehem, Jaziz is first noticed by Jeremy, the leader of Bethlehem shepherds. Strangely enough, Jaziz meant protector of shepherds. Jaziz is small and limping and tied to a bigger donkey who happens to be his mother Nakira.

Before they are separated, Nakira ties a red ribbon with a bell around Jaziz's neck and tells him they’d be together again, God-willing. By a goodly turn of events, Jaziz gets rescued by Jeremy and his band while he is being beaten by Sarif when he refused to carry sacks of stolen goods. Michael, Jeremy's charge, is then paired with Jaziz.
