This study examines the religious and ethical community which had an immense influence on the spiritual development of the Anglo-American world – the family in Puritan England. The book makes extensive reference to the outstanding literary works of the period and to the Puritan ‘conduct-books’, thus illustrating the Puritan way of thinking and attitude to life and showing the relationship between the development of literary taste and the social class system.
