Aimed at students and professionals, this book provides an overview of the science and technology of the upstream/midstream sectors of the oil and gas industry. Topics include the origin of fossil hydrocarbons and their chemical/physical properties; discovering hydrocarbon reserves; recovering oil, gas and bitumen; and purifying natural gas and process offgas. The chapter on safety and the environment discusses safety regulations and environmental laws. It highlights learnings from major accidents.
