John Milton

John Milton (9th December 1608, 8th November 1674) was an English poet. He is best known for his epic poem Paradise Lost. Paradise Lost is widely considered as one of the greatest works of literature. He is known for Aeropagitica, which is written in condemnation of pre-publication censorship and is among history's most influential and impassioned defence of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. He is highly appreciated by William Hayley. He had considered Milton the 'greatest English author'. Other renowned poets such as William Blake, William Wordsworth, and Thomas Hardy revered John Milton. Paradise Lost has been considered as Milton's masterpiece, with that his reputation was considered as one of the greatest English poets of his time.

Around the World in 80 Days

'Around the world in Eighty days' was published in 1873. It is an adventure novel by the French writer, Jules Verne. It was first published in French. The book is one of Verne's most acclaimed works. Jules Verne (8th February 1828 – 24th March 1905) was a French novelist, poet, and playwright. In his credit, a series of novels are there, such as Voyage extraordinaries, Journey to the center of the Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Seas. Each novel is well documented. Besides novels, he also wrote numerous plays, short stories, autobiographical accounts, poetry, and songs. He has been the second most translated author in the world. He has sometimes been called the 'Father of Science Fiction'.

The story starts with Phileas Fogg of London and his newly employed French valet Passe-partout attempting to circumnavigate the world in 80 days. It starts from London. Fogg is a member of the Reform Club where he used to spend most of his social life. Once at the Reform Club, there is a situation that, is it possible to travel around the world in 80 days? After reading in The Daily Telegraph that there is a new railroad in India, making it in 80 days, Fogg along with Passe-partout departs from London by train at 8:45 p.m. on 2nd October. To win the bet, he must come back to the club by the same time on 21st December, 80 days later.

On the first destination where he reaches, starts a bad omen. He is taken up by the police by mistake due to his face similarity with a criminal. After this, they go to India, taking a train from Bombay to Calcutta, then Allahabad. At one place, they see a 'Sati procession' going on. They rescue a lady named Aouda. When they reach back home, he apologizes to her. But she confesses that she loves him and asks him to marry her. The story narrates a complete travelogue with all his experiences, making the book very interesting. Fogg hurries to reach the Reform Club within time to meet his deadline to win the money. After adjusting his travel expenses from the prize money, he divides the remaining money between Passe-partout and Fix, and marries Aouda.
