OUT OF THE DARKNESS

is the story of Else Winter, a German girl born in 1921 in the rural Eifel region. Her childhood years with delightful episodes of seaside holidays and bicycle trips all over Germany are over-shadowed by the rise of the Nazi regime in 1933 and its impact on every detail in her life. Her dreams of going to university and training to be a pharmacist have to take second place to Labour Service. Then the war begins with all its hardship and tragic loss.
