Introduction

Marta is born into a community ravaged by the effects of the Ceausescu regime. Poverty forces her to leave Romania as a young adult to look for work. She comes to Amsterdam to take a job in an old peoples home. But there is no such job, and she is forced to work as a prostitute in a window in the red-light district.

Encounter and Rescue

While there, she unexpectedly meets an old school friend, Sebastian, who sets out to rescue her. Sebastian returns after his first visit but finds she has vanished. He locates her again briefly but then discovers her life is in danger, and she disappears once more.

Search and Discovery

Sebastian and two of his friends resolve to find her, but his friends soon have to return home to Romania. Sebastian stays on in the city and finds more than he has bargained for.
