Although underfoot was sloppy and slippery, we were careful to watch where we stepped. Once again, the scenery caught us off guard.

Beyond the well-traveled roads of the area is the history of an era in its quiet repose. The very first Welland Canal was part of that scene, hidden by brush and overgrowth and quietly reminding one of a much earlier time. Huge rocks cut from the local rock to form the walls of the canal were amazing. Stone overpasses beginning to break away and an old steel bridge standing silent in a now wasteland is a monument to a previous era.

As we continued, a jolt brought us back to the present, as we exited out of the woods to a path which skirted a beautiful, lush, green golf course. Today's world rejoined!
