Notions of Family: Intersectional Perspectives
Presenting new and original research on gender and the institution of family, this volume features both quantitative and qualitative analyses. The objective is to provide a framework for understanding how salient identities such as gender, class position, race, sexuality, and other demographic characteristics function simultaneously to produce observable outcomes in individuals' lives, playing an integral role in maintaining the family.
While there is a substantial body of literature in each of these demographic areas of analysis and theory, only in the past decade have academics attempted to model and analyze the simultaneity of their functioning as a unified force in our everyday lived experience. Additionally, current textual discussions of intersectionality have paid little attention to any particular institutional force. This volume aims to address this gap in the academic literature by focusing on the family as a societal institution.
