Never Missed A Performance
With bright red lipstick and the sound of my kitten heels echoing through the halls of the FDNY testing center, I started to think that perhaps being a New York City Firefighter was not my true calling.
Growing up, I had always had a great sense of pride to say that my Dad was a NYC firefighter and my Mom was a NYC nurse. After the attacks at the World Trade Center on September 11th 2001, my awe for both parents and their professions increased. Although I currently work in the medical field, my admiration for the firefighters of New York City always draws me back. As chaos in the world continues to overwhelm us, it is imperative that we are prompted of our commitment to never forget. The 20th anniversary of 9/11/2001 inspires the sharing of stories reminding us of bravery and honor.
A sunny, Tuesday morning in September
solidified two things in my life. The first being that love can prevail through even the darkest of times. Second, the heroes who were called to service that day possessed elite characteristics that not many of us can relate to. I was a lucky child to be raised in the firehouse. I was exposed to the true meaning of sacrifice, courage, and dedication.
This book is dedicated
to all 343 firefighters who gave their lives to service on 9/11/2001. More specifically, I must honor the 15 men from Engine 54/Ladder 4/ Battalion 9 who watch over 48th street and 8th ave. These faces are the Pride of Midtown, demonstrating to us what it means to give the ultimate sacrifice.
