Synopsis

Taking shelter from the rain in a nearby farm, Harry Marsland encounters a young woman seemingly expecting somebody else. Hearing a noise on the second floor of the ostensibly empty house, the two strangers investigate, discovering the owner of the farm, shot dead. Who killed him, and why? Who was the woman waiting for? About the Author

Arthur John Rees (1872-1942) was an Australian mystery writer and journalist whose stories have been celebrated as amongst the finest of American detective stories. Other notable works by this author include: "The Island of Destiny" (1923), "The Cup of Silence" (1924), and "Old Sussex and her Diarists" (1929).
