"The Mysterious Stranger and Other Stories" is the last novel attempted by Mark Twain, working on it sporadically from 1897 to 1908. He wrote numerous versions of the story, each incomplete and featuring a character called Satan or No. 44. About the Author

Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835–1910), more commonly known under the pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, lecturer, publisher and entrepreneur most famous for his novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884). Other notable works by this author include: The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today (1873) and The Prince and the Pauper (1881).
