Herman Melville (1819–1891)

Herman Melville was an American writer best known for writing Moby Dick. Moby Dick is considered one of the greatest American novels and is still read by many children in school today.

The story centers around Captain Ahab's hunt for a killer whale named Moby Dick who had previously bitten off his leg. Moby Dick is narrated by Ishmael, a member of Captain Ahab's ship.
