About the Case

Gerald John Makinson, Inspector of the North Yorkshire police admits defeat and calls Holmes to Harrogate immediately.

Holmes is asked to investigate a series of cases only loosely connected to one another. The four victims live and work in the local area, and each has been brutally murdered.

Three of the bodies are found with their hearts missing, and the limbs of the fourth victim have been severed.
