Louvenia Buchanan interviews her great-grandmother Mary Clotel Baker Buchanan as a class project and discovers that her Maw Maw has a wealth of information to share about freedom, education, and some of the most influential African Americans in history.

Louvenia also learns about her own ancestors who were kidnapped and brought to America. Her project is so exciting that it wins First Place, and Maw Maw is invited to the school to receive an award!
