Challenges Faced by the National Library

National Library has got a raw deal by all the stakeholders - the management, employees, central government, and professional bodies; lack of political will to make it the prime library of the nation and the hub of Indian library systems and services.

Proposed Measures and Future Plans

Proposed several specific measures that could be considered as future course of action plan for making it compatible enough with other major national libraries of the world. The lack of any nationwide detailed study of manpower planning, together with continuous stagnation in library science education, training, and research without any measures for qualitative improvement are being highlighted.

Priorities for Transformation and Development

Justified why transformation of university libraries, public library service network, crucial future role of RRRLF, and a consortium approach in developing the National Digital Library of India are required to be given the highest priorities.
