Chapter 1

Janet walked out onto the front porch of her house. She picked up the local newspaper lying there. She gasped as she read the headlines: TWO MEN IN THE SMALL TOWN OF MINER WERE KILLED, ONE BEATEN, ONE SHOT.

She yelled at Hazel to start packing her suitcase. Hazel had been her Uncle Joseph's part-time housekeeper, but after Janet had Joseph put in a home, she made Hazel her full-time employee.
