A balanced yet honest six-volume history, it is Walpole’s masterpiece. Volume Four begins with the closing years of the reign of William IV and the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837; the book ends in the year 1841 with a chapter on the condition of England from political, commercial, and economic standpoints.
