About the Book

Based on a set of lectures delivered at the University of St. Andrews between 1890 and 1892, Caird’s aim is to appeal to those “alienated from the ordinary dogmatic system of belief, but who, at the same time, are conscious that they have owed a great part of their spiritual life to the teachings of the Bible and the Christian Church.” Volume One contains lectures on the science of religion, the infinite vs. the finite, Greek religion, Buddhism, Israel, and many more topics on the development of religion.
