Earlier, he draught at the Delhi School of Economics (1966-80) and at the P.G.D.A.V. College, University of Delhi (1963-66). Dr. Gupta obtained his master's and Ph. D degrees from the University of Delhi in 1963 and 1968 respectively.
He has published several research papers in the area of Finance in reputed Endemic and professional journals in India and abroad. He has also published several books. His books on "Behavior of Share Prices in India - A Test of Market Efficiency" (1985) and "Stock Market Efficiency And Price Behavior" (1989) are regarded as pioneering works that analyze share price behavior in India in the context of the efficient market hypothesis.
