Climatology and Climate

Whereas climate is defined as the long-term prevalent weather conditions of an area, determined by latitude, position relative to oceans or continents, altitude, etc., Climatology is the study of Climates.

Since the number of combinations of different climatic controls is very large, every location on the earth's surface has a distinctive climate. As such, climatic classification is a device by which the multiplicity of atmospheric conditions upon the earth is meaningfully organised.
