It has been over forty years now since the present International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea-the Collision Regulations-came into force. It's been over forty years in which there have been considerable technological improvements in ship design and equipment. Despite these improvements, however, mariners are still having collisions; and marine lawyers are still being called upon to settle liability for these collisions.
