Socrates was a Greek philosopher and teacher, now considered to be one of the founders of Western philosophy. His way of teaching, known today as the Socratic Method, encouraged students to question everything: What is truth? What is justice? Are the gods omnipotent?
As he did not transcribe his teachings and thoughts, a great deal of what is known about him today comes from writings of his pupils and followers, notably Plato and Xenophon, as well as the plays of Aristophanes.
