Introduction

The adventures begin even before Ally is born. A raccoon ravages her momma's egg nest and destroys all of the eggs but one. Ally is hatched from the lone remaining egg.

Early Challenges

However, on her way to the river, she is snatched by a large bird. Then later, while floating in the river, she is almost devoured by a monster fish.

Mother's Care

On both occasions, Ally's mom rescues her from disaster. Momma constantly watches over Ally during her hatchling year and the pair really bond.

Theme

The story emphasizes just how important the mother is. Ally loves her momma and always will.
